Left ventricular dynamics during handgrip.

چکیده
The effect of isometric exercise by handgrip on the ejection dynamics of the left ventricle, especially the relation between left ventricular stroke work index and end-diastolic pressure, was studied in 25 patients. In the patients with normal or nearly normal left hearts (group i), the response to handgrip was characterized by a significant increase of left ventricular stroke work index at an essentially unchanged end-diastolic pressure. In the patients with definitely increased LV enddiastolic pressure at rest (group 3), handgrip led to a significant increase of LV end-diastolic pressure associated with only a small and insignificant increase of stroke work index. This response is indicative of depressed left ventricular function. Patients with volume or pressure loaded

Cineventriculographic analysis of left ventricular dynamics during sustained handgrip exercise.
In order to evaluate the effect of handgrip on left ventricular dynamics, cineventriculography was performed in 16 patients with heart disease and 5 normal subjects at 30% of maximal voluntary contraction. No patient had ventriculographic evidence of asynergy or valve regurgitation. During exercise, left-ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV) insignificantly increased, left ventricular end-sy...
متن کاملLetter by Kass regarding article, "Role of left ventricular stiffness in heart failure with normal ejection fraction".
BACKGROUND Increased left ventricular stiffness is a distinct finding in patients who have heart failure with normal ejection fraction (HFNEF). To elucidate how diastolic dysfunction contributes to heart failure symptomatology during exercise, we conducted a study using an invasive pressure-volume loop approach and measured cardiac function at rest and during atrial pacing and handgrip exercise...

متن کاملEvaluation of relationship between myocardial contractile state and left ventricular function in patients with aortic regurgitation.
We studied the relationship between myocardial contractile state and left ventricular functional response to exercise in 14 asymptomatic patients with isolated moderate-to-severe aortic regurgitation and six control subjects. The slope of the systolic blood pressure-left ventricular end-systolic volume (pressure-volume) relationship determined by radionuclide ventriculography during angiotensin...
متن کاملIncidence of arrhythmias induced by isometric and dynamic exercise.
The incidence of arrhythmias during isometric sustained handgrip exercise and during dynamic graded bicycle exercise was compared in a group of 45 patients with various forms of heart disease on no antiarrhythmic therapy. Atrial arrhythmias were equally common during handgrip and bicycle exercise but ventricular arrhythmias were more frequent during handgrip exercise. Of the 45 patients, 38 per...
